All high-school athletes wishing to compete in college in Division I or Division II athletics must register with the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse ensures consistent interpretation of NCAA initial eligibility requirements for all prospective student athletes at all member institutions. Students should start this process in the spring of their junior year of high school and should contact their counselor for assistance registering for the Clearinghouse. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure the Clearinghouse has the following documents it needs to certify:
A completed and signed student release form and fee
An official transcript mailed directly from every high school attended
ACT or SAT scores
The Division I initial-eligibility requirements have recently changed. Students planning to enter college in 2008 or after and participate in Division I athletics must present 16 core courses while 14 core courses are required for Division II. A sliding scale for test score and grade-point average has also been adopted for Division I. Visit www.ncaaclearinghouse.net or see your counselor for a more comprehensive explanation about NCAA eligibility.
