100+ Years of Tradition
Twenty-five years ago, I was in the same place as you—finishing eighth grade and preparing to become a freshman at Turlock High School. I can still vividly recall attending a high school registration night and meeting with a counselor for the first time to select courses. A lot has changed at THS since I graduated in 1991, but many of the important things have remained the same. THS continues to be a school with strong “blue and gold spirit” that values tradition while also embracing the changes required for 21st century learning. It is a safe and welcoming place for students to take risks, be challenged, and learn the requisite skills and knowledge to be successful not only in high school, but in their post-secondary endeavors as well. Some of my fondest memories of THS are of those teachers and coaches who made such an impression on me that I decided to become an educator myself. Although the faces may have changed since I attended THS, a constant in the ensuing years has been the dedication THS staff has shown to making the educational experience for students the very best it can be.
This Course Directory is a resource that we hope will help give students and parents an idea of the educational opportunities available at THS. We offer an extensive array of college preparatory courses including 21 Advanced Placement courses, the most of any high school in Stanislaus County. THS is recognized for its outstanding Career Technical Education program around the State and we are excited about the number of courses that have earned college preparatory approval from the University of California. We continue to support a thriving and robust fine and performing arts program that provides a venue for students’ creative expression. Finally, our Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is an innovative partnership that allows those students interested in a possible career in the military to get a head start on this experience while still in high school. In addition to the many curricular opportunities offered at THS, we also support numerous co- and extra-curricular activities on campus including over 32 clubs and 13 athletic teams. Whether it is in the classroom, on an athletic field, at a performance, or in a club there are any number of places and ways for students to make their mark at THS.
On behalf of everyone at THS, welcome Class of 2017 and GO BULLDOGS!
